Re: (VU-Study-Corner) Re: vu experts - my email to Registrar and Rector about VU

I dont think so that people gets good result just by having Past paper preparation.

Dear, students do get good result by just past papers study. I have seen with my own eyes many students who just attend MCQs both in mid term exams and final term exams and still manage to pass that subject. Do you think they deserve passing? I don't think so

Many students pass in subjects of which they don't even know ABC of that subject.

This all is happening because of MCQs.

I have a question to you about MCQs and paper pattern. I ask this to many students who favor MCQs.

Dear, do you think that every one who has got 80 or 70 marks with MCQs paper pattern can get the same number of marks if (s)he is asked to give the exam with long paper pattern? Some intelligent students can do that but not all of them.

Here is a small example.

MGT201 Financial Management is the subject which I consider the most difficult subject at VU. In Spring 2008 semester, 71% students failed in this subject. Remember, it was long paper pattern. I remember that even those students failed in that subject who had very good result in their first semester of MBA. and just to let you know, highest marks in that semester in this subject were 78.

Now, how many students fail in this subject now a days with MCQs paper pattern. Percentage of students failing in this subject is below 15% or 20%. Why?

Do you think that now students have become more efficient? They study more? etc. etc. whatever the reasons may be.

MCQs paper pattern is not a good paper pattern.

Do you think one who can solve MCQs can solve long questions as well. Do you think a person who has got 60 marks in Financial Accounting with MCQs actually knows how to make balance sheet and P/L account.

When there was long questions paper pattern. There were some subjects in which passing was just like getting on top of K2. Some of these subjects were Financial Management, Research Methods, Statistics, Assembly Language, and many more. Now, if you see the results of students you will find a large number of students getting A grades in these subjects. From where they get A grades. Of course, some of them are intelligent, work hard and do deserve A grades, but not all of them. In fact, not most of them.

Secondly, when there was long paper pattern, students were forced to study by VU. I still remember that in Fall 2007 semester, VU's MGT101 instructor pointed out some 15-20 long questions that can come in paper from recommended book. I was poor at accounting. But I worked hard, understood them and then I was able to do them in exam. i.e. I was forced to study. It didn't happen that instructor pointed out those questions as important and I just memorized them like MCQs. I learned them and then I was able to do them in exam.

This is not happening now a days. VU is not forcing students to study. With MCQs paper pattern, students prepare MCQs and some past papers and then they get good marks.

This is not good for reputation of VU

Who degrade VU's degree value:

Students. ourself First in lane, who degrade its value. I never have seen any student who owns VU's degree with sound information and ever have faced any Degree Value problem. I am sorry to say you guys, but it is true that students dont get study, get F, then blame to VU. That's why value get degraded.

One a nother problem is that, after having first semester's result majority cancel their admission because to understand VU nature and pattern is little bit difficult, and they dont work hard, dont come to realize but cancel their admissions.

Paper pattern problem doesnt make sense Omair Bhai. Whatever the pattern is, student must to get study, I dont think so that people gets good result just by having Past paper preparation.
